Main tasks

You will join the Institute of Medical Systems Bioinformatics (www.ims.bio) and the bAIome Center for Biomedical AI (www.baiome.org) as part of a dynamic, international, and interdisciplinary team working at the forefront of AI-driven biomedical research. Your work will contribute directly to improving our understanding, prediction, and treatment of disease.

Your main tasks include the analysis of complex biomedical data using state-of-the-art AI and agentic system approaches, as well as the development of novel machine learning and deep learning algorithms. Your work will range from methodological innovation to real-world clinical application. You will work with multimodal biomedical datasets (omics, imaging, spatial data, and patient data) and apply cutting-edge AI technologies such as graph neural networks, transformer architectures, diffusion models, foundation models for biology and medicine, and agentic AI workflows such as autonomous analysis agents. In close collaboration with clinical partners, you will translate your research into practical and clinically relevant applications, contributing to advances in precision and personalized medicine.

The position is initially limited to three years as part of a third-party funded project and to be filled with 80-100 % of the regular weekly working hours.

Your Profile

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related field
  • Solid understanding of modern machine learning and deep learning methods, including experience with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow/Keras and scikit-learn
  • Experience with agentic AI systems, automated workflows, or LLM-based development environments (e.g., OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, or similar) is a plus
  • Proficiency in Python, Linux, and HPC environments
  • Experience working with multimodal biomedical datasets (omics, imaging, clinical data) is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with machine learning researchers, biologists, clinicians, and domain experts
  • Knowledge of biology and medicine is a plus
  • Proven ability for independent and creative research (e.g., through projects, publications, or open-source contributions)
  • Highly motivated, team-oriented, and enthusiastic about interdisciplinary research bridging AI, biology, and medicine
  • Strong English skills in an international and diverse work environment
