Main tasks
- Participation in an EU-funded project with international clinical and industrial collaboration partners to investigate the influence of atrial fibrillation burden on cardiovascular endpoints (https://www.afburden.org)
- Conducting systematic literature reviews and simulation studies
- Developing and applying modern causal inference methods with time-varying exposures and confounders to estimate causal effects from observational studies
- Close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team from epidemiology, biometrics, clinical cardiology, and industry, embedded in a supportive and methodologically highly qualified team of epidemiologists and statisticians
- Participation in the institute's teaching activities is by arrangement.
This position is limited to three years for the time being, with 100% of regular weekly working hours, in accordance with the WissZeitVG (German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act). An extension is planned. Part-time work may be possible.
Your Profile
- Completed university degree (master's or equivalent) in epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, public health, mathematics, or a related subject with a sound background in epidemiology and statistics.
- Very good knowledge of medical and epidemiological data analysis; Experience in causal inference (e.g., dealing with confounders, time-varying exposures) is an advantage, or a willingness to learn more about this area.
- Interest in independent method development and testing in the field of causal inference, as well as in the application of these methods.
- Interest in statistical consulting
- Good knowledge of statistical programming, preferably in R or STATA.
- Very good written and spoken English skills.
- Strong team and communication skills
- Independent, careful, and responsible work ethic
The position is expressly designed as a qualification position with the opportunity to pursue a doctorate within the UKE's PhD program.
