Main tasks

A PhD position is available in our research laboratory with a focus on translational oncology. The position is initially limited to three years with 65% of the regular weekly working hours and is initially limited to three years as part of a research project.

You will work in an interdisciplinary team under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Meike Saul. The research group focuses on translational research projects in cancer research, in particular the development of new personalised therapeutic approaches for different tumour entities. In addition, the group investigates the mechanisms of cellular communication in the tumor microenvironment via extracellular vesicles (EVs, also known as exosomes) and derives new therapeutic approaches. To this end, the group uses state-of-the-art microscopic, cell biological, microbiological and immunological methods. A particular focus of the group is the characterisation of EVs at the single vesicle level.

 

Your activities will include:

  • Applying and establishing of functional analyses on EVs
  • Applying and establishing of microscopic techniques (e.g. confocal microscopy, live cell imaging, super-resolution microscopy) molecular biology and cell biology techniques
  • Working with different cell lines in cell culture
  • Data generation and evaluation, including microscopic image analysis, WB, IHC, PCR, ELISA, FACS
  • Evaluate and summarize results and present at departmental, national and international meetings
  • Preparation of manuscripts

Your Profile

  • University degree in biology, chemistry, pharmacy or comparable life sciences
  • Good knowledge of microscopic techniques (an advantage), molecular biology and (immuno)oncology, in particular experience with (at least some of) the methods described above is desirable
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of standard computer applications, especially MS Office
  • High motivation, teamwork and communication skills, commitment, manual and organizational skills, economic sense and reliability
