Field of activity
This position (reference number FK 03-331/3) is to be filled for a period of five years starting on April 1st, 2027. Permanent appointment is intended following a positive evaluation.
The professorship is associated with the position of Head of the Section of Interdisciplinary Endoscopy within the I. Department of Medicine. The successful candidate will represent the field of endoscopy across its full spectrum in patient care, research, and teaching. Key responsibilities include:
- Leadership and strategic development of interdisciplinary endoscopy at an internationally leading academic medical center, with the explicit ambition to remain among the globally shaping centers in clinical and scientific endoscopy
- Further development of innovative diagnostic and interventional endoscopic techniques
- Initiation, acquisition, and leadership of competitive third-party funded research projects, particularly within collaborative and consortium-based formats
- Active participation and a formative role in existing research focus areas (in particular C3i, HCTI, and UCCH) and their associated collaborative research activities
- Expansion and strategic strengthening of interdisciplinary collaboration with related disciplines (including visceral surgery and radiology), as well as active networking at the national and international level
- Promotion of early-career researchers, including supervision of doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows
- Contribution to undergraduate medical education and to postgraduate medical training and continuing professional development
Teaching commitments
Teaching obligations are governed by the Teaching Load Ordinance for Hamburg Higher Education Institutions (Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung, LVVO) in its currently applicable version. Any reduction in teaching load is regulated in accordance with §§ 15 et seq. LVVO
Recruitment requirements
- Fulfilment of the appointment requirements pursuant to Section 15 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz) of 18 July 2001, as amended, including proof of habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications
- Board certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology with documented expertise in endoscopy
- Internationally visible scientific achievements in the field of clinical and/or translational endoscopy
- Proven experience in the acquisition of competitive third-party research funding
- Demonstrated teaching competence
- Leadership experience within an academic medical center is desirable
