Main tasks

iDfellows is a DFG-funded career programme of the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) developed together with its close partners in infection research such as the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), Leibniz Institute of Virology (LIV) and the Research Center Borstel. It is designed as a training and research programme to support excellent clinician scientists interested in aspects of infectious diseases, and allows to successfully combine a career in clinical medicine with innovative research.

  • One year of full-time research funding followed by two years with 50 % protected research time
  • Participation in a structured and individualized clinical iDfellows training programme (in collaboration with the Ärztekammer Hamburg) allowing to qualify as infectious diseases specialist

  • Mentorship and peer-group training will guide the fellows into independent and innovative clinician scientist careers

Your Profile

The call is open to scientifically and clinically highly-motivated clinicians,

  • who have at least two years of clinical experience,
  • who want to develop a research focus on aspects of infectious diseases,
  • who have been able to demonstrate both clinical skills and research accomplishments

  • a motivational letter (max. 2 pages)
  • a reference letter by a clinical mentor and a research mentor (present or past)
  • usual documents such as exam results and certificates (Approbation)

Please note that employment is contingent upon proof of immunization or immunity against the measles virus, in accordance with applicable legal and medical requirements. Documentation (e.g., vaccination certificate) must be provided before employment begins.
