Main tasks
Basic researchers and clinical scientists form functional and interacting research units at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and have recently acquired the DFG-funded research group (FOR 5705) NeuroFlame - Defense and Demise of Inflamed Neurons. From January 1, 2025, this research group will investigate cellular and molecular aspects in inflamed neurons, in particular the calcium overload in neurons caused by excitotoxicity (Hermann et al., Front Cell Dev Biol. 2020 Jun 25;8:496).
Your tasks
- Performing and analyzing difficult and complex, often highly cooperative experimental studies on calcium signaling in murine neurons. Microscopic LiveCell Imaging methods in the high- and super-resolution range are used.
- Participation in the planning and design of experimental studies, including planning of collaborations within FOR 5705, as well as with national and international partners
- Presentation of experimental results at internal events and biomedical congresses
- Participation in the preparation of scientific publications
This position is to be filled for a limited period of 4 years as part of a funded research project.
Your Profile
- Scientific university degree in neuroscience, biochemistry, cell biology, biology, immunology, chemistry or comparable study programs
- Advantageous: sound knowledge of neuroscience as well as practical work experience with molecular biological, immunological and cell biological techniques
- Desirable: experience with neuronal cell cultures, microscopic imaging and animal studies
- Proficient in written and spoken English
- Confident handling of MS Office
- Ability to work in a team, commitment, independence, quick comprehension
- Ability to work in a structured manner and strong communication skills
